The Kennebecasis #3 Bridge over Bloomfield Station Road closed Monday due to construction work that’s expected to last through Friday, according to an update on NB 511.

A public notice posted on social media Saturday by Hampton MLA Gary Crossman said the closure “is necessary to carry out maintenance and repairs on the structure.”

Provincial department of transportation and infrastructure spokesperson Tyler McLean said crews are “performing soil investigation at both approaches.”

The closure is necessary to carry out this work.  There is no damage to the bridge,” McLean said.

The bridge was built in 1912 and last inspected last year, according to provincial data. It lies on the municipal boundary between Hampton and Valley Waters following local government reform that came into effect January 2023.

Hampton Mayor Bob Doucet said the bridge and Hampton’s Kennebecasis #2 Bridge, known as the Green Bridge, are often used as detours for each other when one or the other is closed for maintenance, with the Green Bridge closed for a week last September.

“It’s an inconvenience for some people … but they’ll get through it,” he said.
