Bailey knocked out as Reds even series

FREDERICTON - The University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds rallied from a late 6-3 deficit to edge the Maine Black Bears 7-6 in men's exhibition hockey Saturday. Justin DaCosta's shootout goal was the winner, but all the talk after the contest centred on Kyle Bailey being knocked unconscious after he tied it 6-6 with 2:32 remaining. As Bailey was following through on his one-timer near the faceoff circle, Maine co-captain Jeff Marshall knocked him out with a forearm and elbow to the jaw. Marshall was not penalized but apologized for the hit on Bailey, who was taken to hospital and is out indefinitely. The teams split their weekend series in Fredericton, with Maine winning 5-4 Friday.
