N.B. teams suffer through woeful weekend at u-18 event

VAUGHAN, Ont. - Both New Brunswick teams endured winless weekends at the BMO National Under-18 Soccer Championships in Vaughan, Ont.

The Fredericton Canadian Tire Caps fell 2-0 to Halifax County United Saturday and 3-0 to the Winsloe West (P.E.I.) Royalty Blues in boys action Sunday.

The Caps will take on Saskatchewan in the fifth-place game today.

On the girls side, the Fundy United Vito's fell 2-0 to Annapolis Valley (N.S.) United Saturday and 5-0 to the Calgary Foothills Colts Sunday.

At the under-16 Adidas Cup in Sydney, N.S., the Fredericton boys downed the host Cape Breton Selects 4-0 on Saturday before falling 5-0 to the Regina Pumas Sunday.

Victor Karosan had two goals in Saturday's win and David Jamael and Brett Stillwell added singles. The Fredericton girls fought to a scoreless tie with the Yellowknife Diamond Drillers Saturday and lost 3-0 to Dartmouth United Sunday.

In under-14 actionin Charlottetown, Marissa Duguay had a hat trick as FC Chaleur hammered Yukon Wildfire 7-0 Saturday in girls play. Natacha Roy added a pair of goals and Anouk Pelletier had a single, with the other tally coming on an own goal.

Chaleur fell 3-2 to Longueuil, Que., Sunday. On the boys side, Codiac First Touch lost 5-0 to Ontario's UMSC Red Saturday and 2-1 to Nova Scotia's South Shore United Sunday. First Touch takes on the Prince Albert (Sask.) Celtics today, while Chaleur meets the Newmarket (Ont.) Lasers.
