
Huskies squeak by Spartans

SAINT JOHN - The Hampton Huskies downed the St. Stephen Spartans 4-3 in varsity girls Southern Conference hockey action. Amy Hickey scored twice for Hampton, which lead 2-0 after two periods. Emily Potley and Maddie Long added singles. Courtney Grant, Celia MacDougall and Jordyn McMillan replied for the Spartans.
Basketball
AAA Boys
Liam Shea tossed in 26 points and Ben Hayward added 14 to lead the Rothesay Red Hawks to a 78-47 win over Oromocto High Friday. Jan Ryer led the Blues with 14 points while Mitch McCoy contributed 10.
J.D. Kent scored 22 points, Adam Spurrell added 19 and Simon Gagnon connected for 17 as the Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders downed Simonds 106-41. Kayden Roy scored 12 to pace Simonds.
Brandon Churchill scored 20 to lead the Rothesay High Red Hawksto a 67-55 win over the Harbour View Vikings earlier in the week. Tom Lutes, scored 18 while Liam Shea added 16 in the win. Cameron Montford led the way for the Vikings with 12. Everard Logan had nine and Kevin Wang scored eight for Harbour View, which trailed 39-27 to start the second half.
AAA Girls
Madeline Belding's 23-point effort paced the Sussex Regional High Sonics to a 72-34 win over the Simonds High Seabees. Sarah Meehan added 14 and Brittany Mallory chipped in with 11 for the Sonics. Courtney Thompson led the Seabees with 13 points.
JV AAA Boys
Cody Kanes posted 11 points for the Red Hawks as Rothesay High edged Harbour View 58-54. Conor Duffley scored nine points for the Vikings.
JV AAA Girls
Mo McTague led all scorers with 25 points as the KVHS Crusaders downed the Saint John Greyhounds 64-53. Allie Levesque added 10 points for the winners. Lauren Bower connected for 18 points for the Greyhounds and Kelsey Duplessis added 12.
Carissa McTague scored 18 points and Hayley O'Brien added 16 as the Rothesay High Red Hawks downed the Harbour View Vikings 78-58. Chelsey Collette chipped in with 13. Kaylee Kilpatrick led the way for the Vikings with 19. Emily Thomas added 16. Gillian LeBlanc scored nine for the Vikings. Emily Curry scored 20 points to lead the Red Hawks to a 77-24 win over James M. Hill. Kaleigh Shaw and Erin Dekker each scored 16 in the win. Tiffany Lavigne had eight for James M. Hill.
Exhibition
St. Stephen used 17 points from Francis McGeachy and 16 from Erin Harrington to down Harvey 49-27 in exhibition girls basketball action. Jenny Calhoun and Brittany Caissie each netted five points for Harvey. In boys play, Adam Ganong netted 31 and Zach Atkinson scored 21 as St. Stephen won 103-52 triumph over Harvey. Gordon Robinson scored 13 for Harvey.
