Induction ceremony

N.B. Sports Hall coming to Port City

SAINT JOHN - The 39th annual New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame induction dinner and ceremony will take place June 6 at the Delta Brunswick Hotel in Saint John. It's the first time the event will be held in Saint John. Tickets are available for $75 and can be purchased at Vito's Restaurant on 1 Hazen Avenue, from event chairman Carl White at 658-070, Jackie Henneberry at Saint John Leisure Services at 632-6107 or by contacting the Sports Hall of Fame office in Fredericton at 433-3747. Rock forward schools bantams

SAINT JOHN - High-scoring National Lacrosse League forward Lewis Ratcliffe will be in Saint John Monday to work with members of the New Brunswick Bantam lacrosse team. Ratcliffe, who joined the Toronto Rock roster mid-season last year after a trade with the Calgary Roughnecks, tallied 42 goals and 50 assists in 2008, 28 of those points (13 goals, 15 assists) in just five games with Toronto. He'll be working with provincial team members from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Gorman Arena in Saint John.

Ward records first win at EPR

SAINT JOHN - Andrew Ward scored his first win in the driver's seat Sunday afternoon at Exhibition Park Raceway. Ward, who still has the ink drying on his qualifier's license, scored with Satanslittlenumber in a gate-to-wire victory in 2:04.1. Other winners in Sunday's qualifying action included Big Shot Al ( Lonny Stokes ), Iwish Iwish ( Lonny Stokes ), P H Catman ( Steve Trites ), Rapid Cane and Malek Hanover ( Charlie Price ). Racing is scheduled to start on Saturday at the Saint John track.

Fundraiser being held for P.R.O. Kids

SAINT JOHN - There will be a co-ed slow pitch softball tournament to raise funds for P.R.O. Kids during the grand opening of the Allison Grounds, May 8-10. Registration is $150 per team, each of which is guaranteed three games. For more information, contact Kevin at 696-4277 or Pete at 696-3099.

Coaching clinic set for Saturday

SAINT JOHN - Football New Brunswick and the Fundy Minor Football Association will be holding a National Coaching Certification Program Community Sport - Initiation" (entry level ) coaching clinic Saturday 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the New Brunswick Community College, 950 Grandview Ave, Saint John. The fee is $25 for Football New Brunswick members and $30 for non members. In order to ensure sufficient course materials are available, you must register by calling Arliss Wilson at 672-2421.

Orthodox league seeks new team

QUISPAMSIS - The Quispamsis Men's Orthodox Softball League is looking to add another team for the upcoming season, which begins in May 2009. Games are played primarily on Sunday and Wednesday evenings at the Walter Jewitt Field, behind Daly's. Twirl Zone team earns 25 medals

ROTHESAY - The Twirl Zone Inc. Club captured 11 gold, six silver and eight bronze medals at the 2009 St. Patrick's Day Open Regional Baton Competition at Rothesay High School. Sam Beckwith and Emma Gauthier earned blue ribbons in the pre-solo dance, while Emma Gauthier won silver in medley. In age 9-11C, Sam Beckwith placed third. In 12-14C, Amanda Thompson placed third. In age 4-8BN Jordyn Danells captured gold as did Kayla Burgess, 15-17BN. Kendra MacPhee placed third in the 15-17BN. In solo, age 4-8C, Jordyn Danells was first. In 9-11C, Sam Beckwith was third, Amanda Thompson took first in 12-14C while in 15-17BN, Kayla Burgess was first. In open junior b compulsories, Kayla Burgess won gold. In duet BN, Melanie DeVarenne and Amanda Thompson place third. In two-baton, 4-8C, Jordyn Danells was second, in 9-11C Melanie DeVarenne was first. Amanda Thompson won gold in 12-14C, while Kendra MacPhee was second in 15-17BN. In 15-17BI, Kayla Burgess was second while Stephanie Middleton won the 18 BI crown. In three-baton, 15-17C, Kayla Burgess was second while in 18 C Stephanie Middleton captured gold. In solo dance, 12-14C, Amanda Thompson was first. In 4-8BN, Jordyn Danells placed third. In 15-17BN, Kendra MacPhee was first while in 15-17BI, Kayla Burgess finished second.
