Summer skills camp set for June

SAINT JOHN - The Central Atom Bulldogs and Fundy Minor Football Association will be hosting a summer skills camp for atom and peewee players next month. The camp will run on June 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. and June 14 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Millidgeville North Field No. 1 in Saint John. Featured instructors include St. Mary's University head coach Steve Sumarah and former university players Chris Valardo, Stan Hennigar and Dave Grandy. Team league taking registrations

SAINT JOHN - The On-And-Off Court Saint John Team Tennis League begins next Tuesday and will run on subsequent Tuesdays through Aug. 12 at the Shamrock Park Tennis Courts. Play runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Rain dates are Wednesday evenings. Registration is limited to 30 players at a cost of $65 apiece (HST included). Registration fees must be paid by Friday at 5 p.m. at the On-And-Off Court office at 49 Canterbury Street. For more information, contact Sue Bishop between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 632-6005.

Saints vault over Vikings

SAINT JOHN - The St. Malachy's Memorial Saints defeated the Harbour View Vikings 43-0 in boys AAA rugby action. In the first half, Walker Blizzard scored two tries and converted both. In the second half, John Burnham added a try and Blizzard came through with another conversion. The onslaught continued when Ben Connolly rattled off three majors and two converts. Nick Noel also scored a try.

Hampton High

Huskies edge Greyhounds

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John High Greyhounds held a 13-7 halftime lead but failed to stop the Hampton Huskies, who eked out a 14-13 victory in boys high school rugby action. Colin McIntyre and Andrew Davenport scored one try apiece for the Huskies and Eric Rodgers tallied two converts. James Sudul scored one try and added a convert for the Greyhounds while Brandon Chiasson had the other major.

Seabees soar past Sonics

SAINT JOHN - The Simonds Seabees scored a 26-6 victory over the Sussex Regional Sonics in boys high school rugby action. Jared Hamm tallied two tries for the Seabees. Kirk Gilmore and Nick Dow added one try apiece for the winners while Chris England notched three converts. Evan McKnight and Jamie Mullin both booted penalty kicks to account for the Sonics' scoring.

Rothesay High

Redhawks roll to 52-0 victory

SAINT JOHN - Rothesay High Redhawks got two tries from Mike Cote and cruised to a 52-0 victory over Sir James Dunn Academy of St. Andrews in boys AA senior rugby action. Sean Pike added a try and six conversion points. Matt Black, Kyle Boyd, Ryan Lister, Mark McLaughlin and Hazen Grant also scored tries for Rothesay.
