Salisbury racer powers to win

SHEDIAC - Mike Power Jr. of Salisbury picked up his second Maritime Super Series for Sportsman win of the season in front of 2,500 fans at the Centre for Speed (CFS) in Grand Barachois Saturday. Wayne Smith of Timberlea. N.S., solidified his lead atop the Sportsman standings with the win in the Lucas Oil 150. Power did the same atop the Maritime Super Series standings heading into the final 100-lap event next Sunday at Blue Mountain Speedway near Bathurst. Saturday's 50-lap feature was divided into two 25-lap segments with threatening skies for the first part of the late afternoon event. In the first 25-lap segment, pole sitter Gary Hicks led flag-to-flag for the win followed closely by Luc Bourgeois of Memramcook and Freddy Prosser of Shenstown. Power had to settle for fourth spot while Claude Gaudet of Barachois rounded out the top five. An inverted start for the second 25-lap segment meant that both Hicks and Bourgeois had to start at the rear of the field with veteran driver Dan Bourque of Grande-Digue on the pole. With some hot and heavy bumping action, both Hicks and Bourgeois were not able to battle their way through the field and had to settle for fifth and sixth respectively. Power crossed the finish line first.
