Aecon awarded Dalhousie University contract
HALIFAX - Aecon Group Inc. has been awarded a contract of a new $27-million academic building at Dalhousie University in Halifax. Phase 1 of project involved demolition of a tower structure and church hall on land where the new 104,000 square-foot building will be built. Construction of the new building is to be completed by June 2010. Aecon is Canada's largest publicly traded construction and infrastructure development company.

Canadians less pessimistic about economy, poll suggests
OTTAWA - A new poll suggests Canadians are starting to feel ever-so-slightly better about the economy and their own financial prospects. The Harris/Decima Investors Group survey indicates pessimism about the economy in the coming year has fallen six percentage points from May, to 32 per cent. The number of respondents who thought their personal financial situation will deteriorate also slid slightly, to 17 per cent from 20.

Computer maker Dell Q2 profit drops, stock plunges
Dell Inc. said Thursday its fiscal second-quarter profit fell 17 per cent. The earnings were short of Wall Street estimates, and Dell shares plunged. For the three-month period ended Aug. 1, Dell's earnings dropped to US$616 million, or 31 cents per share, from $746 million, or 32 cents per share in the same period last year. Dell shares went down $2.54, or 10 per cent, to $22.67 in after-hours trading. Earlier, the stock dropped 42 cents to close at $25.21.
