KINGSTON PENINSULA - A black bear is making itself a nuisance on the Kingston Peninsula.

Sgt. Steve Gordeau of the Hampton RCMP said the animal has been rummaging through garbage in the area. Gordeau confirmed the Department of Natural Resources has set up traps to catch the bear.

"We have received calls of regular sightings over the past couple months," Gordeau said.

He said Natural Resources say that "the bear is looking for food and garbage is easy food. People should simply put their garbage away in a barn, shed or garage."

Police received the most recent call of the bear in a back yard in Kingston on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Sussex RCMP was called out to a motor vehicle collision involving a car and a black bear on Highway 1 at exit 211 in Penobsquis on Wednesday.

Cpl. Phil Oliver said there were no injuries and only minor damage to the car involved in the collision. He said the bear walked into the woods and could not be located by police when they arrived.
