Pick of the week: Symphony New Brunswick Season Premiere is Tuesday at the Fredericton Playhouse, 8 p.m. Features conductor Stéphane Laforest and soloist Patricia Creighton, principal flute with Symphony Nova Scotia. Highlights include 'Symphony No.8.,' Op.88 by Anton Dvorak; 'Concertino for Flute,' Op. 107, D major by Cecile Chaminade; 'Five Miniatures for Flutes and Strings' by William McCauley. St. Thomas University holds auditions for Fredericton's annual Christmas at the Playhouse at the Black Box Theatre in Sir James Dunn Hall today at 1 p.m. and again Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Come prepared to sing a Christmas song unaccompanied. ' Sunday: St. Andrews Film Society screens 'Away From Her' at the W.C. O'Neill Arena Theatre at 7:30 p.m. A poignant story of a woman lost to Alzheimer's, and how a married couple is separated by this disease. This production is open to the public. The Voices of the Bay choir perform at the Grand Manan Community School at 4 p.m. The choir sings a wide variety of songs, including one written for the concert merging 100 voices into one. Tickets are $10 (students $5) and will be available at the door. Ferries to the island leave Black's Harbour Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. There is a return ferry at 7 p.m. after the concert. Japanese dance classes start today and run till Nov. 23. These lessons will be held every Sunday, 2-3 p.m., at the Multicultural Association of Fredericton on York Street. The Saint John Theatre Company holds a general crew call for anyone interested in working behind the scenes of 'Chicago,' 2 p.m., 112 Princess St., Saint John. ' Wednesday: Julien Le Blanc performs a solo piano recital. From the warm fiery sounds of the Mediterranean to the languid sorrows of Poland he invites you to take a musical tour of Southern Europe. The UNB Resident Musician performs Scarlatti, Granados, Poulenc, and Chopin, 8 p.m. in Memorial Hall, the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. ' Coming Up: The Canadian Council on Learning's Adult Learning Knowledge Centre invites submissions for a poster design contest from professional artists and designers in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
