Regulators say Suncor's Firebag can partly proceed
CALGARY - Alberta regulators say Suncor Energy (TSX:SU) can partly proceed with its Firebag oilsands project now that it has reduced hydrogen sulphide emissions. Last September Alberta Environment found Suncor's emissions exceeded ambient air quality guidelines. The Energy Resources Conservation Board says it has now removed production restraints on the project located near Fort McMurray.

Potash Corp. workers vote to strike to back demands
VANCOUVER - About 500 workers at three potash mines owned by Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan Inc. may strike to back demands in contract negotiations.Unionized workers, who voted Tuesday to authorize a strike, say they want a bigger share of soaring profit at the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan-based company, the world's biggest maker of potash by market value. The three mines produced 30 per cent of the company's total output, Potash Corp. said.

Canadian Auto Workers union to elect new president Sept. 6
TORONTO - The Canadian Auto Workers union will elect its new national president on Sept. 6 to replace retiring union head Buzz Hargrove, right. The new president will take over immediately following a special convention to be held in Toronto. Hargrove and other senior members of the CAW national leadership have said they back Ken Lewenza, president of CAW Local 444 in Windsor, Ont., to take the helm of the 250,000-member union.
