Revolution shines in air emergency

OKLAHOMA CITY - An American Airlines flight from Boston to Los Angeles was diverted to Oklahoma City on Friday after a passenger stripped nude and later tried to open an emergency exit door before being subdued by members of a professional soccer team and others, the FBI said. Members of the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer were among those who grabbed the passenger near an exit door, FBI spokesman Gary Johnson said. Tie wraps were placed on the man, whose name was not immediately released. He was taken into custody in Oklahoma City and placed under psychiatric evaluation, Johnson said. American Flight 725, a Boeing 757, arrived in Oklahoma City at 1:35 p.m. local time and was back in the air an hour later, said American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith. It landed without further incident at Los Angeles International Airport at 3:13 p.m.

PGA

Johnson, Flanagan share first place

MILWAUKEE - Richard S. Johnson was disappointed his score wasn't lower while Nick Flanagan was just happy to be playing well on the PGA Tour. First-round leader Johnson shot 3-under par 67 and Flanagan had a 7-under 63 Friday to share the second-round lead at 10-under at the U.S. Bank Championship over the 6,579-yard Brown Deer Park Golf Course. Kent Jones and Gavin Coles were tied for third a shot back of the leaders. Jones shot 65 and Coles, of Australia, had the low round of the tournament at 62, one shy of the course record. Another stroke back at 132 were Troy Matteson and Ken Duke, who both shot 65.

Birdie putt lifts Kim into lead

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Christina Kim's second-round 68 at the LPGA State Farm Classic looked ordinary compared to her opening 63, but it included a birdie putt on her last hole that gave her a one-stroke lead over the charging Michelle Wie and three others. Hamilton's Alena Sharp shot a 2-under 70 to sit tied for 28th at 6 under. Charlottetown's Lorie Kane is two shots behind Sharp at 4 under and tied for 51st. Penticton, B.C., native A.J. Eathorne missed the cut after firing a round of 73, bringing her to 1-over par.

NHL

Blackhawks name Toews captain

CHICAGO - The Chicago Blackhawks announced Friday that centre Jonathan Toews will serve as the team's captain for the 2008-09 season, making him the third-youngest captain in NHL history. Only Pittsburgh Penguins centre Sidney Crosby and Tampa Bay Lightning centre Vincent Lecavalier, both while still 19, became captains at a younger age than the 20-year-old Toews. Toews led NHL rookies last season with 24 goals and seven power-play markers while ranking third with 54 points in 64 games.
