Petition opposes aerial spraying

Fredericton - A group of women the Restigouche region who oppose aerial spraying of the province's forest presented a petition signed by more than 5,000 people to the provincial government on Tuesday. The petition requests that the government ban all pesticides in the forests around Kedgwick. In September people working in the woods of northern New Brunswick, including more than 50 women planting trees, were doused with chemicals from a helicopter spraying the public forest to kill hardwoods in a young softwood plantation, according to the Conservation Council of New Brunswick. Betty St. Pierre, a spokeswoman for the group of people who say they were sprayed, says people experienced running eyes, sore throats, nausea and other symptoms after being sprayed with herbicide.

REXTON - A bridge in Rexton will be closed periodically over the next month due to construction.
