Canada, United States grow FASTcard program
In a move to expedite travel and trade but also bolster efforts to combat security threats, the U.S. and Canadian governments announced they will expand enrollment centres for NEXUS and Free and Secure Trade (FAST) trusted traveller program cards at the St. Stephen, N.B. and Calais, Maine, border, as well as at the crossing between Lansdowne, Ont. and Alexandria Bay, N.Y. The governments said in a joint statement that Canada will join the U.S. in recognizing the cards as valid identification documents in all lanes at all land and sea border ports of entry beginning Nov. 25. The cards are often used by truck drivers to bypass long waits at border crossings.
