Police looking for public assistance

The major crime unit of the Saint John Police Force is seeking assistance from the public in locating a stolen trailer loaded with furniture. The theft occurred on Monday at about 11:30 p.m. near C.A. Munroe, 320 Montreal Ave. in West Saint John. A tractor is believed to have hooked on to the trailer and made off with the goods. The value of the stolen items is $35,000. The trailer is described as a 53-foot, white 1998 MANAC trailer, bearing the licence number TLS 136 and #530842 on the rear access door. If anyone has any information, they are asked to contact police at 648-3333 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Recreation

City asking utility for park funds

The federal and provincial governments have still not pledged any funding for upgrades, including a new entrance, at Rockwood Park. The park has raised about $2.2 million and needs another $1.25 million to complete the work. Officials are completing the designs and tendering of the work. Meanwhile, common council is asking Saint John Energy for financial or "in-kind" support to cover costs for lighting.

Drainage

Flood meeting to be held today

The city is holding a public information session today on how it will address flooding problems in a west side area. The city is planning two phases to handle the problem in the Sea Street area. The first phase will involve a new storm outfall on Sea Street, from Seal View Lane to the Bay of Fundy. The second phase will include replacing part of a storm sewer and installing new storm water collection systems. City officials are holding information sessions today at the Hilton Belyea Arena on Lowell Street, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and again from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
