Recreation: Company also agrees to take care of arena Zamboni for a decade

QUISPAMSIS - Just one week after announcing the first company to have its name attached to the Q-Plex, officials gathered again to celebrate another business that will sponsor the facility.
Saint John Toyota and Lexus of Saint John have signed a deal to sponsor the Zamboni at the Q-Plex for the next 10 years.
The sister companies also donated two vehicles to the Quispamsis facility.
"In a climate of economic uncertainty it appears the Q-Plex story of environmental stewardship, community and business development with an emphasis on sports, health and wellness is resonating with everyone," town administrator Mike Brennan said at an event held Monday to herald the announcement.
The news of Toyota's involvement comes just one week after Homestar Inc. announced it would sponsor the Q-Plex off-leash dog park.
Mayor Murray Driscoll said the automobile dealership's involvement in the project was a natural fit.
"You can't have a rink without a Zamboni, and two new vehicles are an added bonus," the mayor said, with a shiny, new 2010 Toyota Prius hybrid parked in front of him outside the town hall where he made the speech.
Along with the Prius, a 2010 Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck was also donated to the project.
"This is a very significant contribution to our Q-Plex," Driscoll said. "We need a Zamboni, and this one is environmentally friendly and it's electric and upscale."
Keary Coyle, president of Saint John Toyota, said when he heard about the Q-Plex and its focus on the environment he wanted to be a part of it.
"Our vehicles are as environmentally friendly as anything on the road today so we thought it was a good fit for us," he said. "The residents of the valley have been great supporters of our business, and we felt it was time for us to step up and give a contribution back to the community."
Coyle would not say how much the sponsorship will cost the company.
"It's a major project for the town of Quispamsis and surrounding areas, and we've known for some time that they need a facility like the Q-Plex, and when the opportunity came to be a major sponsor we looked at the initiatives they had we knew it was a perfect fit for Toyota," he said.
The town has been raising money to help with the cost of the facility through corporate campaign called Going for the Gold, which hopes to reach a $1-million goal.
While the exact figures for donations have not been made public, the town had released some figures regarding its corporate branding campaign in the summer.
Outdoor components such as the dog park could be sold for about $12,500 while indoor naming rights, including the Zamboni, were being offered up for about $25,000.
Plans call for the Q-Plex to open in 2010.

Since then the price went up 2.5million and that was before it even started, that means we are now going to be on the hook for at least 17.5million if not more.
You may also be interested to know that 64% of the residents surveyed by the town wanted to twin with Rothesay, and that only 4% of the children will get to use the ice.
And for the record I have 2 children who play hockey.
