Theft spurs call to be more cautious
UPHAM - Police investigating a theft from an unlocked vehicle say there have been more cases of people rummaging through cars in the area. Cpl. Pat Cole of the Hampton RCMP said Thursday that a purse and its cash was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Route 820 in Upham. "There has been an increase in this type of crime in the Upham and surrounding area," Cole said. "We are asking the public to lock their car doors and to keep valuables out of sight." The thefts are under investigation.

Energy minister to discuss deal
SUSSEX - Energy Minister Jack Keir will be in Sussex Monday to talk about the proposed sale of NB Power to Hydro-Québec. The information session, hosted by the Sussex & District Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise Fundy, will be held at 6 p.m. at the Fairway Inn. The public is invited to attend and is asked to RSVP by calling 433-1845.
Zoning
Company is seeking changes to bylaw
SUSSEX - Town council will hear public objections to a proposal to change its zoning and municipal plan on a property adjacent Maple Avenue and Morrow Avenue on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 6 p.m. Prestige Homes has made an application to council to change bylaws to allow the company to build low-income housing for the Sussex Resource Centre. A public presentation on the application has already been made and people have until the Nov. 25 meeting to submit their objections in writing, or they can choose to speak on them that night. The town has already received some correspondence from residents in the area objecting to the development. The area is currently zoned light industrial. In order to build four, six-unit buildings to be used as affordable housing, it needs to be R3.
