RCMP promotes two local officers
ST. STEPHEN - The RCMP has promoted Bob MacKnight to sergeant and appointed him operations supervisor for Distrcit 1 West, based in St. Stephen. He did this job for the past year, filling in for Larry MacDonald who was promoted to staff sergeant in May. MacDonald now serves as district commander for the RCMP's District 1, which encompasses Charlotte county and the Isles.

Ottawa to sell, then lease back
ST. GEORGE - The federal government intends to sell the historic post office built in St. George in 1935-1936. The building has been largely vacant since the Department of Fisheries and Oceans moved out of the top floor to new facilities. The government intends to lease the building back to serve as a post office for at least five years, but does not intend to carry a largely empty building.

MADD launches ribbon campaign
ST. GEORGE - The Charlotte County chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving launched its annual Red Ribbon campaign this month at the St. George Save-Easy. The national campaign runs till Jan. 4, covering the holiday period when more people tend to drink. The group hands out ribbons for people to put on their vehicles, promising that whoever drives will not be impaired. All money collected during the launch stays with the chapter.

Church holds service
ST. ANDREWS - All Saints Anglican Church, St. Andrews will recognize the work done by town council and staff at a service Nov. 29. Staff and council will be piped into the church for the 11 a.m. service. Two people will read biblical passages. A pot-luck meal will follow. The church scheduled this service for the eve of St. Andrew's day.
