Lightning cruise past Wheelers
SAINT JOHN - Kacey's Bud Lightning used a hat trick from Allain Chaisson and single from Tim Hay to outlast the Auto Barn Wheelers 4-1 in East West Suburban Hockey League action. Brian Cooper replied for the Wheelers. Meanwhile, Jake's Pub dropped the Port City Pawn Shop Pirates 4-2 using markers from Trent Savoie, Kyle Friars, Bill Conway and Dan Backa. Jamie Brown answered twice for the Pirates.
Rangers breeze by Nord-Ouest 8-1
SAINT JOHN - The KV Vito's Rangers blew past the Pionneers Sports Experts Nord-Ouest 8-1 in Bell Aliant Pewee AAA League action. Sam King notched two power-play goals while Michael Roscoe added a marker on the man-advantage and five assists. Patrick Barry and Spencer Buck each scored twice and Drew Harley contributed with a single as the Rangers improved to 3-2-0.

Midland Meadows hosting tourney
NORTON - The Midland Meadows Golf Club is hosting a tournament on Remembrance Day to raise money for The War Amps of Canada. Registration costs $15 per person and takes place Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. A moment of silence will take place at 11 a.m. with a shot gun start to follow. For more information call 485-8008.
Vito's suffer first loss of season
SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Vito's suffered their first loss of the season Saturday, falling 7-4 to the Fredericton Canadiens at the Lord Beaverbrook Rink. Dylan Jones led Saint John with two goals while Marcus Mason and Mike Richard added singles. Andrew Mergl faced 30 shots en route to the loss, which drops the Vito's to 7-1-0 for second place in the New Brunswick-P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League.

Local skaters hit their stride
HALIFAX, N.S. - Emily Taylor and Hannah Sawyer of the Saint John Skating Club are among four New Brunswick skaters who qualified to represent the province at the Skate Canada BMO Challenge in Mississauga, Ont., Dec. 8, after competing at the Skate Canada BMO Sectionals in Halifax, N.S. this weekend. Taylor, 15, captured silver in the pre-novice category and scored personal bests in her short and long programs while Sawyer, 17, also scored personal bests in both her programs in the novice division. Both girls are coached by head coach of the Saint John Skating Club Kim MacVey with choreography by Amy Ouellette. Other skaters who competed from the Saint John area were Anna Salgado and Jessica Taylor.
Badminton
Fall Open tourney set for Saturday
SAINT JOHN - The On and Off Court Saint John Fall Open Badminton tournament will take place Saturday at Ecole Millidgeville North. The A and B singles divisions start at 9 a.m. with the C singles starting at 11 a.m. and open junior doubles division beginning at 1 p.m. The cost to register is $20 for one event or $30 for two and the deadline is Thursday by 5 p.m. For more information or to sign up call 632-6005.
Rangers earn wins on weekend swing
SAINT JOHN - The KV Bantam AAA Vito's Rangers (6-1-1) picked up a pair of wins after outscoring opponents 17-1 in New Brunswick Bantam AAA Hockey League action. The Vito's sunk the Miramichi Rivermen 11-0 on Saturday using hat trick from Colin MacSween and a pair of goals from Chris Forbes and Ryan Burns. Logan Saunders, Mark Simpson, Jacob Dunnett and Scott Lloyd each added singles. Ryan Cormier recorded the shutout. The Vito's went on to drop the Chaleur Lightning 6-1 using a pair of goals from Tyler Johnson and singles from Devon Earle, Simpson, Lloyd and Burns. Zac Moulton had the win in net.
