Driver flips car, gets arrested

Just after 2 a.m. on Saturday a car travelling along City Road rolled over. The driver and his passengers weren't injured, but when police arrived they arrested the driver for being impaired. No one was seriously injured. The Saint John Police also arrested another three impaired drivers Saturday. They will all appear in court at a later date.

Two stolen cars recovered

On Saturday afternoon members of the Saint John Police Force got in a foot chase after a car that was believed to be stolen was stopped and the occupants fled. The car, which had five people in it, was stopped along Samuel Davis Drive just after 4 p.m. Police managed to take a number of people into custody. At midnight, police stopped another stolen car on Loch Lomond Road and arrested two youths and two young adult females. Police are still sorting out the charges and the investigation is ongoing.

Break and enter at music store

Sometime late Friday or early Saturday a window at Long and McQuade on Rothesay Avenue was smashed. The store was formerly known as Music Stop. About $1,000 of merchandise was taken.

Pot on the stove leads to fire

At about 3 p.m. on Saturday the Saint John Fire Department was called to a fire at 144 Camarthen St. When they arrived at the building, which is just a stone's throw from the main fire station, they found a fire and the cause, a pot left on the stove. The kitchen of the apartment suffered smoke, fire and water damage.

House target of break and enter

The Rothesay Regional Police are asking for the public's help after a number of household items were stolen from an apartment building on Sierra Avenue. Police believe it happened at about 11:30 p.m. Friday. Those with information are asked to call the Rothesay Regional Police Force at 847-6300 or KV Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Remembrance Day services

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 69 will hold two services on Wednesday. The first is at 9 a.m. at the Cross of Sacrifice at the Cedarhill Cemetery extension and the other begins at 10:45 a.m. at the cenotaph at Barnhill and St. Rose School.

Brush of Hope for foundation

The Kidney Foundation of Canada, Saint John chapter, is hosting A Brush of Hope Gala on Friday that will allow guests to bid on original art work by celebrities including actors, musicians, athletes and media personalities. Country musician Chris Cummings will be a special guest at the event, which is set for the Delta Brunswick and begins with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $30. Entertainment will be provided by Carmel Weir-Urquhart and Jacqueline Guptill. All paintings will be displayed at the event and they are now up for bid on eBay until Nov. 15.
