Police issue warning to motorists
HAMPTON - Police in Hampton are warning motorists they will be fined if they disregard the red flashing lights on school buses. Cpl. Pat Cole of the Hampton RCMP said his detachment investigated two separate incidents on Thursday alone where drivers failed to stop for the lights indicating children getting on and off the school bus. The first incident occurred in the morning when a child was preparing to get on the bus in Rowley, and the second at the end of the day when a student was getting off the bus on Centennial Road in Hampton. Cole said while these instances often go unreported, on Thursday a bus driver and an observing motorist lodged the complaints to police. "All you need is one little kid to run across the road" for a motorist's negligence to turn tragic, Cole pointed out. He said violators could be fined $292.50 for this offence.
