RESTIGOUCHE - The Restigouche-Chaleur RCMP has reported that even though Halloween fell on a Saturday night this year, there were very few incidents to which officers were called.

Sophie and Emilie Noel of Dalhousie were among the thousands of young people who took advantage of a beautiful evening last week to trick or treat on Halloween.

Sgt. Ron Desilva said on Nov. 2 that only a couple cases of minor complaints such as noise or rowdiness were called in to which the RCMP responded. Even with warmer than normal temperatures - at one point last Saturday the temperature was 13 C - nightlife in both Campbellton and Dalhousie went without so much as a fight. And that's considering the clocks were also turned back an hour around 2 a.m., allowing bars to stay open an extra hour.

Desilva said the most "serious" incident was when the RCMP was called to Subway St. in Campbellton to chase away some older children who were throwing eggs off the CN overpass.

Besides that, Jean Coutu on Water St. had one of its windows broken by late night hooligans. No one was injured in any of the incidents and no reports of arrests have been made.

In years past, young people would destroy almost anything in their path, causing some businesses and local schools to actually hire a night watchman to deter the youth. No damage was reported at any of the schools in the area.

A Halloween Party for children in Campbellton was held at the Lions Club. Town-sponsored treat bags were given out by Grade 12 students from DRHS at Janet Miller Park in Dalhousie.
