Investigation
All hands on deck for garage fire
MOHANNES - The St. Stephen Fire Department is still investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a garage on Mohannes Road. Jeff Richardson, chief of the St. Stephen Fire Department, said the homeowners of 538 Mohannes Rd., in Mohannes, phoned the fire department at 5:47 p.m. on Monday to report that their garage was on fire. Richardson said when fire crews arrived the garage was fully involved in fire. He said since the garage was connected to an old barn and a large old house the department did not waste time. "We knew we had an old farm house and we knew it was big so we didn't wait any time," Richardson said. "We called all the troops in." He said fire departments from Oak Bay, Western Charlotte and Calais, Maine, were called in to help. No one was injured in the blaze. Richardson said the fire is not deemed to be suspicious but the cause is still under investigation.
