Flu
Clinics today, Friday for priority groups
H1N1 vaccination clinics for priority groups will held in Sussex today and in Saint John on Friday. Today's clinic will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 66 Magnolia Ave., from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Friday, the Saint John clinic will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Barrack Green Armoury, 60 Broadview Ave. Priority groups are defined as: children six months to 18 years; pregnant women 20-weeks plus; pregnant women less than 20 weeks with underlying medical conditions; parents of children under six months old and First Nations people living on reservations only. Clinics for the remaining priority groups and the general public will be opening as soon as possible and will be continuing through November and December, said a spokesman for the Horizon Health Network. For updated information on the clinics visit www.gnb.ca/flu or call 1-800-580-0038. Meanwhile, the City of Saint John has been informing all municipal employees about how to prevent the spread of the virus. Officials have held public information sessions and a presentation is available on the city's internal website to inform staff what steps they should take. The city is asking employees to try to stand a metre away from others during conversations, avoid shaking hands and wash their hands as often as possible, using hand sanitizers where sinks are not available. City hall is also preparing to stock municipal buildings with disinfecting wipes, whose active ingredient kills H1N1 and other viruses.
