Grady touring in support of new disc
The self-proclaimed kings of a new musical genre, Cowboy Metal, Grady plays two New Brunswick shows in support of their third album Good As Dead on Nov. 12 at Nicky Zee's in Fredericton and Nov. 13 at The Manhattan Club in Moncton. Grady's live show is a subsonic combustion swerving between punk rock agro and field holler hypnosis. As Jello Biafra once enthused "These guys are the missing link between Junior Brown and Black Flag." Tickets on sale at all Ticketpro outlets, online at Ticketpro.ca, and by phone at 1-888-311-9090. Visit www.shadygrady.net for more.
Nikkie & Ryan LeBlanc at Imperial Nikkie & Ryan LeBlanc kick off Imperial Theatre's Voices of Canada: Telling Our Own Stories... Atlantic Edition series Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. Nikkie's mix of folk, pop and rock, sweet voice and beautifully crafted songs contrast with Ryan's instrumentals on harmonica, acoustic guitar and claw hammer banjo. But they find musical middle ground, embracing a wide range of genres infused with a touch of home. Tickets, $24, $22, $20, and $15 for ages 18 and under, are available at the box office, online at www.imperialtheatre.nb.ca or by calling 674-4100. Books
A reading from 'Jolicure Cats'
Lorrie Bell Hawkins, author of Jolicure Cats, is the featured guest at Books at the Bistro on Friday from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Opera Bistro, 60 Prince William St., Saint John. Books at the Bistro is presented by Opera Bistro and Inprint Bookstore. In the spring of 1969, Lorne and JoAnne Bell along with their 17-year-old daughter Lorrie, moved from Montreal to the small farming community of Jolicure, New Brunswick. Lorne, who never could bear cats, grudgingly agreed to a barn cat. Over the years many cats and kittens - smug ones, aloof ones, affectionate ones and wild ones, cats of many colours and cats with many toes - came and went. But some, the ones than even Lorne came to love, stood out from the rest. With illustrations by Dwight Kirkland, the 12 stories that make up the book are the memoirs of these cats. Tickets, $50, include lunch and a copy of the book. Call Opera Bistro at 642-2822 or Inprint Bookstore at 648-2315 to reserve seating.
