Three N.B. athletes take home medals
MONTREAL - Three members of the Kiyokan Judo club had no problem passing up turkey dinner after winning three bronze medals at the Quebec Open International in Montreal on the weekend. Judo athletes Vannessa St-Pierre (52 kilo, under 20 female), Brent Cormier (38 kilo, under 15 male), and Jennifer Landry (57 kilo, senior female. earned medals. Ok Ikejiani, the club's only other competitor that would compete, won three matches before being finishing in seventh place.

Coaching course set for Saturday
SAINT JOHN - A National Coaching Certification Program course is slated for this weekend in Saint John for female football coaches. The course will take place from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday at the New Brunswick at the Community College. It is being offered as part of the National Women's Tackle Football Program to get more female coaches in football. Sunday, the fourth of seven evaluation camps will take place at Simonds High school starting at 9 a.m.

Hawks keep streak alive
SUSSEX - The Rothesay Red Hawks blanked the Sussex Sonics 4-0 in Southern confernece AAA boys soccer action Tuesday to remain unbeaten this season. Natthawat Jamprasert opened the scoring in the first half followed by a single from Branden Cosman. In the second half, Alex Neilson netted a single followed by another from Natthawat Jamprasert on a penalty kick. The shutout was recorded by Tom Lutes. Rothesay has not allowed a goal against in the regular season.

St. Malachy's edges past Riverhawks
SAINT JOHN - Jenn Brown connected twice as the St. Malachy's Saints edged the Rothesay Netherwood Riverhawks 2-1 in New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association field hockey action Tuesday. Victoria Zed replied for Rothesay. St. Malachy's improved to 5-1-4 while RNS dropped to 9-3-0.

Saint John club hosts invitational
SAINT JOHN - The J.D. Irving Invitational Elementary School cross country meet will take place Wednesday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at Reversing Falls Park in Saint John. Registration, organized by the Saint John Track Club, will take place on-site from 3:30-4 p.m. and is free of charge. Rankin captures sportsman title
SHEDIAC - John Rankin of St. Martins capped off a successful sportsman season by winning the Vance Hanes Autoparts 75 Atlantic Championship event during the 9th annual Atlantic Stock Car Championships in Grand Barachois Sunday. Rankin's win adds to his 2009 season championship at Speedway 660. Kirk Thibeau of Fort Fairfield, Maine won the Maple Leaf Foods Pro Stock 150 event. Four other Atlantic champions were crowned - Jamie Vassallo from Glace Bay, N.S. in Streetstocks, Geoff Bevan of Middle Sackville, N.S. in Legends, Martin Landry of Grand Barachois in Mini Stocks and Dan Michaud Jr. of Waverley, N.S. in the Four Fun division.

SAINT JOHN - The Senior Ladies Recreational Hockey Program, a new initiative in southern New Brunswick, has posted upcoming pre-season ice times for women 18 years old and up.
