Rachael Duffley was an outstanding athlete who was attending St. F.X.

"Rachael's Music by the Bay" will feature Darren McGinnis, The Cool Chicks and Ugly Doclings, and Shanklin Road and is being held to raise cash to augment the Rachael Dawn Duffley Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The event is being held one year after an accident that claimed the life of the promising 18-year-old university student and athlete who loved music. She was killed on July 6, 2008, on Highway 850 in Keirsteadville, where she grew up.

A high honours graduate of Belleisle Regional High School, she was frequently recognized for her contributions to the school community through her involvement in sports, student activities, fundraising events, student council, and tutoring.

Duffley completed her freshman year at St. Francis Xavier University, from which she received an entrance scholarship and Award of Merit. She was a member of the Belleisle Rugby Club, the St. Francis Xavier University Women's Rugby team, the N.B. U-19 and Black Caps women's programs, and the Saint John Trojans.

After her death, her family established the Rachael Dawn Duffley Memorial Scholarship Fund with the Greater Saint John Community Foundation as a lasting memorial to her commitment to family, youth, education, sport and the Greater Saint John area.

Graduates of Belleisle Regional High School entering post-secondary education institutions and demonstrating academic success, leadership qualities, extracurricular/community/athletic involvement, and financial need are eligible for the scholarship.

Last month, family members presented the first award of $1,000 to Kirby Lynn Morrill who, coincidentally, played rugby with Duffley. Morrill will be pursuing studies in science at UNB this fall.

Rachael Duffley was the oldest daughter of Mark and Lynn Ann (Jennings) Duffley.

The three-hour, outdoor benefit concert begins at 3 p.m.

Tickets are $15 and are available at Easy Kleen Pressure Wash, Sussex; Valley View Sales and Bates Landing on the Belleisle: at Car Quest, Ron's Convenience and Bayview Credit Union in Hampton; at Coles Convenience and Kent in the Kennebecasis Valley; and at Eddy and Dykeman's Hardware in Saint John. Lawn chairs are suggested. Refreshments will be available.

For more information, call Lynn Ann and Mark Duffley at 485-2080.
