Margo McLeod of Woodstock, above, is tied for top spot heading into the final round of play today in the amateur category at the Royale N.B. Ladies Championship at the Grand Falls Golf Club.

Both sit at eleven-over-par 155 after two rounds at the Grand Falls Golf Club. Vienneau shot a 78 in the second round while McLeod fired 79 during a rainy afternoon that made for nasty playing conditions.

Former New Brunswick junior champion Stephanie Chubb of The Riverside Country Club in Rothesay and Hampton's Katherine Ann Beamish are one stroke behind the leaders with a two-day total of 156.

Chubb, despite a 10 on the par 5, 10th hole, shot a 79 while Beamish shot an 80. Riverside's Allison Chisholm had the low round of the day with a 76, which leaves her with a total of 157. Tied with Chisholm is Leanne Richardson after a second round 80 left her at 157 for the two days.

In the Senior category, defending champion Kathy Grebenc of Gowan Brae has distanced herself from Rockwood's Pam Cossey after firing a 77 to give her a two-day total of 156, 12 over par. Cossey shot an 80 to give her a total of 162, six shots behind Grebenc. Also in the hunt are Catherine Burgess with a 166 after shooting an 80 and Penny Dickeson also with a 166 after posting an 85 Monday.

In the Super Senior category, defending champion Marlene Steeves of Kingswood will carry a three shot lead into the final round after firing a second-round 87. Steeves sits at 171 for the championship, three shots ahead of Mactaquac's Leona Cameron, who improved to 85 on Monday. Cameron is playing the Super Senior category for the first time.

The top four amateur players at the championship will earn spots on Team New Brunswick and compete at the 2009 Royale Cup Canadian Women's Amateur Championship, to be played in Moncton at the Royal Oaks Golf Club from July 27-31.

The top four Senior players and the top Super Senior player will earn spots on Team N.B. and compete at the 2009 Royale Cup Canadian Women's Senior Championship, to be played in Bridgewater, N.S. at the Osprey Ridge Golf Club Aug. 24-27.

The 2009 Royale N.B. Ladies Championship is a 54-hole stroke play championship with three categories with both gross and net prizes. This year's championship has 99 participants with Royale returning as the events' title sponsor.
