The Picture of Energy for saint John

The closing ceremonies of the 30th Jeux de l'Acadie in Petit-Rocher are now behind us. The creators of the 31st games being held in the Port City from June 30 to July 4, 2010 are already hard at work to put on a great display. Among the projects underway is a competition, open to the public, to design the logo for the Games.

The organizing committee of the Finale des Jeux de l'Acadie 2010 (COFJA) recently launched a public call to create a logo that will accompany the slogan of the 31st Games: 'Our Strength is Energy.'

"We wanted to set a slightly different course than using the ever-present image of the sea. Saint John is an energy hub at many different levels, with youth and sport as essential drivers, so this theme is a perfect fit," said Christianne Vachon-Horgan, the assistant co-ordinator of the publicity and media relations of COFJA 2010.

COFJA 2010 must indeed take into account another important fact: next year the city commemorates the 225th anniversary of its incorporation as a city and the Centre Samuel-de-Champlain will be marking 25 years on the local scene.

"Other than the idea of energy, the idea of community celebration must be incorporated into the design," Vachon-Horgan said. The contest is open to all ages and the winner will have his or her logo illustrated by a professional graphic artist. The prize also includes a $50 gift certificate from a local sporting goods store.

The deadline for entries is July 24. Designs may be delivered to the receptionist at the Centre Communautaire Samuel de Champlain at 67 Ragged Point Rd. or sent by email to jeuxacadie@hotmail.com. The name of the winner will be announced in September.
