Display honours charter signing

FREDERICTON - The New Brunswick Provincial Capital Commission, in partnership with la Commission de la capitale nationale du Québec, will launch Architecture and Power, a unique exhibition of Canada's national, provincial and territorial parliament buildings, in honour of the 225th anniversary of the signing of the Provincial Charter of New Brunswick. The exghibition will open Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the grand foyer of the Centennial Building, 670 King Street, Fredericton. The exhibition is on view until September 20. Rally to honour Canada Games team

MONCTON - The New Brunswick team of athletes and artists representing the province at the 2009 Canada Games will gather in Moncton today and Sunday for a rally in their honour. The public is invited to Moncton High School on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. for a ceremony to recognize the province's participants in the Games, to be held on Prince Edward Island from Aug. 15-29. The first week of competitions will take place in the Summerside area, the second in the Charlottetown area.

Six people injured in Highway 1 crash

POCOLOGAN, N.B. - Six people were sent to hospital following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 1 on Friday near Pocologan in southern New Brunswick. Three people from one vehicle were sent to the Charlotte County Health Centre and have since been released. Two adults and one child from the other vehicle were taken to the Saint John Regional Hospital. The two adults are in serious but stable condition and the child was uninjured. RCMP say it appears a car heading east went over the yellow line and struck the side of a vehicle heading west.

Waterfront work finished this summer

BATHURST - Work on the Bathurst waterfront is expected to be completed this summer. The four-year project cost about $2.8 million and will be shared between all three levels of government. The city is hoping the improvements will lure more tourists and residents to the area.

Fatality

ATVer dies after hitting tree

BATHURST - A 49-year-old man is dead after he lost control of his all-terrain vehicle and collided with a tree. Jacques Godin of Tremblay, N.B. passed away at the scene. The accident occurred Thursday evening near California Lake.

Crime

RCMP seize meth, weapons in bust

WOODSTOCK - A substantial quantity of methamphetamine along with $3,300 in American money and several weapons have been seized by the RCMP from a residence on Tamarack Road near Bedell Settlement in Woodstock. Charges are pending against two residents, a 37-year old man and a 34-year old woman. The investigation is ongoing.

Crime

Pair arrested with contraband smokes

EDMUNDSTON - RCMP intercepted a vehicle on Highway 2 near Edmundston carrying 108,800 contraband cigarettes. The two occupants, including one youth, were arrested and the matter is under investigation. The suspects are scheduled to appear in Edmundston Court Sept. 9, 2009, to face charges arising from this matter. The cigarettes are believed to have been destined for the Sussex area.
