$34.7 million announced for Quebec forestry sector
The federal and Quebec governments said Friday they are investing $34.7 million in the forestry sector in the province. About $30 million will go to restore bridges and culverts on roads in outlying regions. Another $4.7 million is being spent to allow businesses to keep track of various certification standards . "These investments confirm our government's commitment to supporting communities by helping create and maintain jobs for forestry workers," Quebec Natural Resources Minister Nathalie Normandeau said in a statement. "These efforts will serve to promote greater access to government-owned forest lands. The funds allocated for the establishment of wood product traceability chains will allow Quebec enterprises to gain access to leading-edge expertise so that they can meet the new demands of wood product importers."
