Discovery
Bullets found in envelope

Members of the Key Industries staff were doing their normal cleanup outside the building on Charlotte Street Thursday morning when they found a mysterious envelope. Inside the envelope, discovered in some bushes just off their property, were four live .22 calibre bullets. Police were called and the bullets removed. Insp. Bruce Connell of the Saint John Police Force said the bullets will be inspected to determine if they may have been involved in a crime. In March and April, there were six incidents of shots being fired at people and buildings.

Smoke

Problem traced to faulty furnace

The Saint John Fire Department was called to a home on Grandview Avenue at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday when smoke was noticed inside the home. When firefighters arrived, they found the basement full of smoke. The smoke wasn't a result of flames, though, it was because of a faulty furnace.

Busted

Officer spots ATV, finds pot plant

A Saint John police officer noticed a car driving along Sandy Point Road with a child-sized ATV sticking out of the car's trunk early Tuesday. Since it was 6:45 a.m., the officer thought it was rather strange and pulled the car over. The ATV turned out to be stolen from the north end, but it was what was on the backseat that really stood out - a marijuana plant. The 28-year-old driver is facing charges of theft under $5,000 and possession of marijuana.

Vandalism

Workers arriving for work Tuesday at the provincial Extra-Mural hospital office on Manawagonish Road found 14 vehicles damaged after someone repeatedly jumped on the cars. Police are estimating the damage at $5,000 and are asking anyone with information to contact city police or Crime Stoppers.
