Alien
Crew member jumps ship
Canadian Border Services agents and police officers are on the lookout for a man who jumped ship in Saint John late Monday. Police say a crew member of a ship loading potash failed to return to the vessel. When a person leaves a ship illegally, the shipping company has to post a $25,000 bond to defer the costs of searching for him, said Laurie Gillmore, a spokeswoman for Canadian Border Services. If the person returns to the ship then the bond is returned. There is a legal way to enter the country so when people flout those rules, it is taken very seriously, she said.

Driver's antics damage cars
City police are looking for the driver of a pickup truck who spun his tires in the parking lot at the Irving Nature Park and sprayed a number of cars with gravel. Because of the stunt, which happened Monday at 9:20 p.m., fours cars were damaged by the hail of rocks.
Traffic

Soldiers from CFB Gagetown will be conducting driver training in several New Brunswick communities starting Thursday and continuing to July 17. Military vehicles will be on the roads in Saint John and Sussex. Gagetown officials say the vehicles should pose no traffic problems for area drivers and strict safety rules have been put in place.
