Missing
East side man reported missing
Jaakko Oskari Lauri, also known as John, an east side man, was last seen on June 7. He was reported a missing person on June 16. He is a resident of the Morland Trailer Park. Lauri is six foot one, 168 pounds, of a slight build, bald with a moustache and beard. He was last seen wearing a blue vest, blue jeans and a white hat. The Saint John Major Crime Unit is asking anyone who may have information or know the whereabouts of Lauri to call them at 648-3333, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Vandalism
Police ask for help locating suspects
The Saint John Police Force Major Crime unit is asking the public for help in identifying anyone responsible in damaging the plaza under construction at 41 Plaza Ave. beside the new Sobeys location on Fairville Boulevard. The plaza was damaged in the early morning hours of June 6. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 648-3333 or call Crime Stoppers.
Recovery
Man back to work after hazardous fall
Noel Gainza was back to work Friday after falling into a vat of hazardous material at a St. George fish farm Tuesday. The 67-year-old was released from hospital Tuesday and is doing well. He and his family wish to thank his co-workers for acting quickly after he fell into the vat.
Caught
Motorcyclist arrested after ride
Motorists on the throughway were a little shocked Friday at 8:30 a.m. to see a motorcycle travelling at high speed and, according to at least one witness, on one wheel. Police caught up with the man, who is in his 20s, on Main Street. He was arrested for dangerous driving and will appear in court at a later date.
Review
Irving Oil undergoes public review
People have until July 17 to submit comments, questions or suggestions regarding the Irving Oil refinery. The refinery must go through a public review process in order to renew its air quality operating approval. Air emissions, pollution control equipment or monitoring and reporting requirements will be scrutinized. To submit comments, go to 8 Castle St., Saint John, to the Department of Environment office.
