Edmundston Integrated Pulp Mill
The mill's sulphite operation is set to restart on July 5 while its groundwood pulp is scheduled to resume on June 22. The Co-generation facility restarted on June 12. The 450 person plant is the integrated pulp source for the Madawaska paper mill on the other side of the border, which is said to be doing well.
Plaster Rock Lumbermill
Earlier this month Fraser Papers' spruce and fir saw mill in Plaster Rock was shutdown for modernizing work, which includes a wood-fired energy plant, new kilns to dry lumber and improved sawing equipment. The 200-person operation sells lumber into the housing construction and renovation market.
Juniper Lumbermill
This mill, which employs 100, is running on a single shift basis. It produces random length spruce, pine and fir mix lumber to housing construction and renovation markets. Fraser Papers says weak lumber markets have in part drained our limited resources.
Thurso, Que. Pulp Mill
The 300 employees at Fraser Paper's sole Quebec operation are currently off the job as the mill is currently closed, though the company is negotiation with the Quebec government for funding to reopen. The mill produces maple, prime and photograph products for printing, decorative laminates, labels, tissue, photos, white top liner and moulding.
Madawaska, Maine Paper Mill
This mill, the company's largest employer with 680 workers, produces coated and uncoated specialty paper products for printing, packaging, labels and publishing. It is one of two operations the company expects to continue operation without interruption. In May the company announced one of its six paper machines would be taken out of production indefinitely.
Masardis, Maine Lumbermill
The 150 employs at this mill are working on a two-shift basis producing random length spruce, pine and fir lumber for housing construction and renovation markets.
Ashland, Maine Lumbermill
This mill, which employs 120, is currently closed. The plant offers studs and white pine boards for use in both regular and high-end housing construction and renovation. Fraser Papers says weak lumber markets have drained the company's limited resources.
East Millinocket, Maine
integrated pulp and paper mill
This mill is owned by a subsidiary of Brookfield Asset Management and operated by Fraser Papers employing 500. It offers uncoated groundwood papers to directory, and newsprint markets. Fraser Papers says its paper operations are still doing well, but demand for pulp is down.
Gorham, N.H. Paper Mill
This 320 person operation makes uncoated paper and wet crepe towel to publishers, packagers and producers of away-from-home towels. This profitable operation is the other mill Fraser Papers says will remain in production without interruption.
