‘Observanda: Things that should be noted or looked at’ is a historical exhibition combining works of art, fine craft and archival materials by the women and faculty of the Mount Allison Ladies’ College. It is on display at the Owens Art Gallery in Sackville.

* Today: Fredericton-based dance artist Lesandra Dodson has joined forces with local musicians and internationally renowned dancers to bring an original modern dance performance to the Black Box Theatre, on the St. Thomas campus, today and Sunday at 8 p.m. 'The Broken Spoke' is choreographed by Dodson and performed by Susie Burpee, Linnea Swan and Susanne Chui. Dodson collaborated with musicians Luis Cardoso and Michael Doherty, along with local playwright Step Taylor. The work is inspired by the dark and fascinating characters of American writer and illustrator Edward Gorey and features elements from Dodson's new solo work inspired by the poetry of Emily Dickinson. Sleddogs, Heckman and Downes and December Fall Out perform at the Rising Tides' Concert in the Square from noon to 5 p.m. at Kings Square in Saint John. The event promotes family and environmental awareness. For more information visit www.risingtidesfestival.ca.

CFMH presents the third annual Artists on Vinyl Closing Party at Bean Books, 122 Germain St., at 7 p.m. Artists use vinyl records to create new artworks which are offered for silent auction to raise funds for the campus and community radio station. Place a final bid on the vinyl art pieces. The party features DJ Hawk spinning the tunes and the fabulous eats of the Fat Walrus Catering Company. Call 648-5667 for more information.

Beaverbrook Art Gallery offers a docent-led Art Lover's Tour at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Free for galley members and included in the price of admission for non-members.

* Sunday: Brigitte Clavette hosts a discussion about her exhibition 'Drawing the Myth,' at Gallery 78 at 2 p.m. Clavette will take questions about her methods and inspirations, discussing the ability for art to express things about any and all people. Free.

Rod Schumacher releases his second book, 'Baptism by Mud' at 2 p.m. at Westminster Books, 445 King St., Fredericton. 'Baptism by Mud' is a mixed genre novel, loosely structured along the lines of a satirical quest. Relentless in its outrage, at times hilarious, always pitched with contentious emotions, the book grapples with the struggles of marriage, parenting and personal fulfillment in contemporary Canadian culture. Free; everyone welcome.

Accompanist Revenge takes place at St. George's Church, in Saint John, at 2 p.m. Claire Driscoll, Christopher Lane and Terri-Lynn Russell provide a fun afternoon of musical theatre, French art songs, classical and contemporary pieces. Audience members find out what revenges are in store. Tickets can be purchased from one of the participants, at the door, or by calling 644-7700.

The UNB Conservatory of Music presents its annual Solo and Ensemble Spring Concert at Memorial Hall, UNB Fredericton campus, at 3 p.m. There will be a variety of instruments and styles from Broadway songs and string quartets to French flute music and percussion. Alto Mare Strong Orchestra present a spring concert at St. John's (Stone) Church, 87 Carleton St., Saint John, at 7 p.m. Conducted by Hok Kwan, the group of amateur and professional musicians offers an evening of various works by Telemann, Pergolesi, Steffler, Holst, Ostyn, Coleman and Silvestri. * Monday: Polyphon Chorus, providing music of the Renaissance and Baroque, seeks experienced choristers for its summer session. * Tuesday: Fred Eaglesmith performs at the Kennebecasis Valley High School Theatre in Quispamsis at 8 p.m. Eaglesmith brings to mind both Neil Young's raucous splendour with Crazy Horse and the tender beauty of Young's acoustic numbers. Tickets, $15 (advance), are available at Backstreet Records, KV Drugs and Rothsay and Hampton Pharmasaves. Tickets are $20 at the door.

Tourism Saint John presents a walk '*' talk titled 'These Be Monsters.' Participants walk along Harbour Passage and learn about strange creatures of the sea spotted over the years in the Bay of Fundy. The walk '*' talk, which begins at Barbour's General Store at the foot of King Street at 7 p.m., is led by David Goss. For more information call 672-8601. If it is raining one hour before the walk is to begin it will be rescheduled to the following night, same time and place. * Wednesday: The Charlotte Street Arts Centre presents an artist talk by Winnepeg-based artist Denise Préfontaine at 7 p.m. Préfontaine is the first of two visiting artists-in-residence at the centre this summer, installing her responsive and playful outdoor works on the grounds at 732 Charlotte St. For more details visit www.charlottestreetarts.ca or call 454-6952.

* Thursday: Gallery Opaque, Green Shops and The Belton Group celebrates everything green at 634-1 Brunswick St. from 5 to 8 p.m. Meet members of Fredericton's Green Shops' program while exploring the beautiful art of Gallery Opaque. The eco-art show includes works by Sheila McPhee, Victoria Victoria and Billy Yvonne, Joan Crate, Mallory Driscoll. For more information visit www.galleryopaque.com or call 450-2197. The exhibition will be showing for the months of July and August.

* Friday: Backstreet Records presents For the Sake of the Song at 124 Germain St., Saint John, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Three to five singer-songwriters are featured each week. Music lovers of all ages welcome.

Trinity Galleries, 128 Germain St., opens 'Emerging Artists Exhibition,' a variety of fresh work by up-and-coming artists, with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Explore the work of recent fine art graduates from schools throughout Atlantic Canada. * Saturday, June 23: Men of the Deeps perform at the Imperial Theatre in Saint John. All proceeds from sales go to the RCR Education Fund for the Children of Fallen Soldiers. Tickets, $32, $34 and $36 are available at the box office or by calling 674-4100.

* Ongoing: 'Effections: We Need to Talk' by Immony Men is a series of video installations based on a labour-intensive process. Each installation is a video composed of digital prints illustrating different components of intimate relations. Organized by Gallery Connexion and hosted by the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in the lower level gallery at 703 Queen St.

It features art works, notebooks and archival material highlighting the processes and accomplishments of the students and faculty of the Mount Allison Ladies' College, which was active between 1854 and 1937. All welcome.

The group exhibition 'Vase' continues at the New Brunswick Crafts Council Fine Craft Gallery at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre in Fredericton until June 26.
