Early Music Studio performs concert
On Sunday, April 19, at 2 p.m., the Early Music Studio will present a concert of works by Henry Purcell and George Frideric Handel in Hughes Hall of Germain St. Baptist Church, 228 Germain St., Saint John. Soloists Jillian Bonner and Edward Phillips will join Alison Leonard and Sara Liptay (violins), Eric Ring (viola), Benjamin Marmen (violoncello) and Tim Blackmore (harpsichord) in a program of works for soprano, trumpet, strings and harpsichord, including arias from Dido and Aeneas and Giulio Cesare and the G Major Suite from Handel's Watermusic. Dorothy the Dinosaur from down under and her friends Wags the Dog, Henry the Octopus, Captain Feathersword, Fairy Clare and Fairy Larissa are bringing their dance party to New Brunswick in a live show at the Imperial Theatre in Saint John on April 14 and The Playhouse in Fredericton on April 15. Both shows are at 4 p.m. From the hit television show The Wiggles seen in 21 countries, Dorothy the Dinosaur has engaged, enchanted and entertained children worldwide with her adventures and songs. The stage show will feature songs written and recorded by Blue Wiggle, Anthony Field, including Dr Knickerbocker, Come On Let's Jump! and Let's Have A Party. Captain Feathersword will be joined by Don the Postman, who sings his signature song. Shake your hips with Wags the Dog and dance a fairy jig with The Fairy Dance. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the day of show (including tax). Canterbury Tales Festival, contests
The 2009 Canterbury Tales Literary Festival takes place in Saint John May 7-9 in Market Square for readings, seminars, poetry slams, storytelling workshops, creative writing contests for young and old and a round table on the future of libraries. Award-winning author Donna Morrissey will be on hand, as well as Saint John's own Marlene Reid Hull and many other authors. Saint John annual showcase April 18
Saint John's biggest annual showcase, Dance 2009, takes place April 18 at 2 p.m. Presented by the Imperial Theatre Foundation, this dance spectacular combines everything from jazz, tap and ballet to highland, lyrical, belly dancing and everything in between in one main stage performance. Tickets are $17/adults, $15/seniors, $12/youth 18 and, and $8/children 12 and under, and can be purchased at www.imperialtheatre.nb.ca, at the box office, or by calling 674-4100.

ITEC call for submissions
The Imperial Theatre Exhibition Committee invites submissions for artists interested in showing their work at the theatre. The exhibition space in the lobbies of the Imperial Theatre has space for a large collection and can accommodate more than 20 medium-sized pieces. Each exhibition is displayed for about two months of viewing. Additionally, a web page is dedicated to the current ITEC display, featuring images of some of the pieces, facilitating further exposure of the work. To submit a proposal, forward a portfolio of relevant works, including slides or photographs by April 22 at 5 p.m. to ITEC c/o Imperial Theatre, 24 King Square South, Saint John, N.B. E2L 5B8. Printmaking on display in Sackville
Fog Forest Gallery, 14 Bridge St., Sackville, welcomes spring with an exhibition dedicated to printmakers. This group show features hand-made art prints from many talents artists. Preview of this extensive exhibition and the amazing work being created by Canadian printmakers at www.fogforestgallery.ca. This exhibition continues until May 9.
