Moosehead Breweries to make contract offer

Moosehead Breweries Ltd. was preparing Sunday to present a contract offer to members of the Brewery and Soft Drink Workers Local 362, whose collective agreement with the company expired on Dec. 31. The company and the union, which represents 160 plant workers, agreed to a media blackout at the beginning of the weekend as talks continued. "We have agreed with our union to observe a media blackout," said Joel Levesque, a company spokesman on Sunday afternoon. "But having said that we are in the process of delivering an offer to the union for their consideration." He would not provide any other details.

Public welcome to talk about birds

On Jan. 15, naturalist Jim Wilson will be a guest in the Hammond River Angling Association's speaker series with his presentation of Bay of Fundy: A Seabird Magnet. His talk about the birds of Fundy will begin at 7 p.m. at the Hammond River Conservation Centre in Nauwigewauk. He will discuss the importance of the bay to local and migrating seabirds, and reveal the bird populations that visits the Lepreau Peninsula. The event is open to the public, and there's no admission fee.
