A number of volunteers for the Marco Polo project gathered recently for a group photo. The project, which has cost $300,000 to date, has been shut down for the season. Project co-ordinator Barry Ogden says that once completed, the downsized replica will be approximately 90 feet long and 65 feet high, once the mast is in place. Although the project won't start up again until next May, Ogden says those wishing to give donations or volunteer can do so by contacting him at 658-5358.

Twelve of more than 100 student short story entries were awarded $250 each at an awards ceremony held at the Imperial Theatre in Saint John on Sept. 21. The Southwest New Brunswick (NBSW) chapter of the Professional Writers Association of Canada (PWAC) organized the contest in conjunction with funding provided by the Mary McKean and John Venner Russell Foundation. The contest was open to students in Grades K to 12 in Southwest New Brunswick.
