Police probing two robberies

The Saint John Police Force responded to two robberies Tuesday night, including one at the Petro-Canada gas station on Bayside Drive. Two men burst into the station at 11 p.m. and demanded cash and cigarettes, which the staff handed over. Police said the robbers were described as being in their late teens with slight builds. One had a white cloth over his face and wore black jogging pants with a white stripe and a blue jacket with white stripes. The other robber wore blue plaid pajama bottoms, white hat and a black jacket with the hood up. Police said the other robbery occurred on Charlotte Street, but the victim is not co-operating.

St. Andrew's Day dinner set Nov. 27

The gentlemen of the St. Andrew's Society will be singing, toasting and enjoying some piping on Nov. 27 as they celebrate the patron saint of Scotland at their 210th annual Fest Day dinner at Riverside Country Club in Rothesay. The 7:30 p.m. dinner will be preceded by a reception, starting at 6:30 p.m. Celebrants will join in the customary parade of the haggis before it is addressed, before dining on prime rib. Tickets, at $55 apiece, are available by calling John Watson at 657-3760 before Nov. 23. This year's guest speaker is Dr. John Mackay.

AHSC celebrates emergency nurses

The Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation, now part of Regional Health Authority B, marked Emergency Nurses Week on Wednesday with a celebration of Emergency Nurses Day. The theme of this year's celebration - "Emergency Nurses "¦ Simply the Best-" underscores the dedication of emergency nurses "not only here in Zone 2 of Health Region B, but all around the world," an AHSC news release said. The emergency nurse is a specialist with expertise in maternal/child, surgical, mental health, critical care, ambulatory, gerontology and community health.
