Fredericton dominates youth soccer provincials

ROTHESAY - Teams from Fredericton captured three provincial youth soccer titles as six divisions crowned 2008 New Brunswick champions Sunday at the Arthur Miller Fields in Rothesay.

Fredericton teams won the under-12 boys class and both divisions in the under-16 division.

Moncton's First Touch earned the under-12 girls and under-14 boys divisions while Chaleur captured the under-14 girls class.

The under-14 boys and girls champions advance to the nationals in Charlottetown while the under-16 boys and girls champions will play in the nationals in Sydney N.S.

The Fundy under-18 girls and Fredericton under-18 boys claimed their divisional crowns earlier this month and will advance to the nationals in Vaughan, Ont.

Those tournaments take place during the holiday weekend in October.

There are no national competitions for under-12 divisions.

In under-12 girls, First Touch earned a narrow 1-0 victory over Fredericton.

Renee Gauvin scored the only goal while Kate Foreman recorded the shutout.

In under-12 boys, Fredericton shaded Dieppe 5-4 in a shootout.

Sawyer Eddy, Val Price, James Tang and Alex Voisine scored for Fredericton in regulation while Hugo Cresp-Lacroix, Patrick Gauvin, Uk Km and Jesse Riley replied for Dieppe before the shootout.

In under-14 girls, Chaleur won the crown with a 3-1 decision over Fredericton.

Anouk Pelletier, Catherine Guitard and Alexandra Roy scored for the winners.

In under-14 boys, First Touch used goals from Jeremy Clark, Bart Pijnenburg and Alexandre Theriault to down Fredericton 3-1 in the final. Tommy MacLean scored the lone goal for Fredericton.

In under-16 girls action, Emily Pelletier scored the game's only goal as Fredericton nipped Chaleur 1-0.

In the under-16 boys final, Aaron Gagnon and Peter Reimer scored for Fredericton, which advanced to the nationals with a 2-0 victory over First Touch.
