Theft
Golf course gets flags back
The 11 flagsticks that were stolen from the Riverside Country Club were quietly returned sometime before 6:30 a.m. Friday. The flagsticks, $11,000 worth, were stolen Thursday. They are used to mark each hole. "They noticed them stacked neatly behind the third green," said Sgt. Don MacKinnon of the Rothesay Regional Police Force. Police aren't going to just forget about it because the flags are back, he said. "Still, someone has committed a theft."
Alarms
Calls cool off for fire department
The humid weather played less havoc with fire alarms Friday, but residents likely still wished for mandatory air-conditioning across the city. The Saint John Fire Department responded to five alarm calls Friday, which was a significant drop from the 15 or so false alarms the weather caused on Thursday. Firefighters responded to some buildings multiple times as the weather set off the alarm systems.
Traffic
Wind turbine parts will be on the road
Beginning Monday and lasting until mid-September, wind turbine parts will be transported from the port of Saint John to the site of the wind farm in Prosser Brook, Albert County. Highways 1, 2 128, 15 and 114 and other rural routes will be used to transport the massive parts and traffic delays will occur. The work will be done during daylight hours and the greatest delays are expected near bridges and overpasses.
