Last week, CAO Manon Cloutier told council that because of the extensive amount of paperwork that was needed to be prepared and filed, a 12-month extension given to the owner last year had expired, which would have allowed the project to move forward.

“It wasn’t really his fault as there were a number of PIDs (property identification number) from each of the properties that needed to be combined and dealt with all at once and there was a lot of paperwork that couldn’t get done on time,” she said.

Cloutier would not provide the name of the developer to Brunswick News as it was not made public at the meeting.

There are two houses on the top of the hill on Roseberry Street (259-271) that were built in 2007 but without all the proper permits in place. After legal wrangling, the city turned off the water and the houses were never occupied.

On April 3, 2023, council agreed to rescind a notice that was given to the owner back in 2007 that halted all work on the properties and gave the owner a year so that he could follow through with the details that would have led to the city’s turning on the water and the houses to be occupied.

“We had to go through legal but it seems that it’s been resolved with the corrected and consolidated PIDs,” said Cloutier.

The matter will now be in the hands of the developer to continue to work on the rest of the proper paperwork in order for the houses to be used or sold.
