The campaign gives people a chance to place an angel on the Christmas tree at the Hospice Shoppe on Duke Street.

“With Christmas being a difficult time for so many, one of our first fundraisers was Angels Remembered,” said Brenda Ouellet, a volunteer with Hospice Miramichi for more than a decade.

“The angels on the tree were made by Helping Hands for Hospice, Girl Guides, and several dedicated volunteers. Placing an angel on the tree is one of the ways we can help the healing during grief.”

Hospice Miramichi works in the community to provide free care and support for clients and families in their homes. The organization is currently preparing to open a six-bed residential hospice at the Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home.

Staff and volunteers are trained to provide practical and emotional support during a person’s end stages of life and throughout the grieving process, as the focus of hospice palliative care is on comfort, not cure and on life, not death.

“Hospice Miramichi is very dear to my heart,” said Ouellet. “Having spent the final hours with both my parents and in a hospice setting with my brother-in-law, I understand how comforting palliative care can
be for the patient and family.”

The suggested donation for Angels to Remember is $5. Proceeds support the hospice’s free services offering care, compassion, and comfort to patients and their families. The campaign runs until Dec. 22.

The Hospice Shoppe is an upscale resale boutique offering clothing, decor, and household items. This social enterprise is the backbone of Hospice Miramichi’s fundraising efforts and is largely supported by volunteers, many of whom have been with the organization since its inception more than a decade ago.

Hospice Miramichi was founded in 2011 and serves the approximately 65,000 residents of the Miramichi region.
