Fullarton was most recently president of the Moncton Northeast Construction Association. Her appointment was announced during the chamber’s eighth annual State of the Tri-Communities conference Thursday morning at the Delta Beausejour Hotel. She will succeed John Wishart, a former reporter and editor of the Times & Transcript, who is retiring after several years as CEO of the chamber.

“I’ve been really intrigued by the work that’s been done by the chamber by John Wishart and his team and I think my experience in the construction industry will play a pivotal role in the future as we deal with labour shortages and how that fits into the global context and our economic development in our own city,” she said Thursday. “I want to support our own business community, the SMEs (small to medium sized enterprises) and in a collaborative working environment.”

Wishart announced his intention to retire last year and the chamber’s board chairperson Michelle Duffie said they searched for a replacement before appointing Fullarton.

The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton has been the voice of the local business community since 1891. The organization says it has nearly 800 business busineses from Dieppe, Moncton, Riverview and surrounding areas, representing 30,000 members. It is a non-profit organization funded by membership and fundraising events.
