CBS snaps up Lambert Jacksoul singer dies
Published Wednesday November 25th, 2009

ABC's Good Morning America cancelled an appearance by Adam Lambert following his racy American Music Awards performance but he was quickly snapped up by ABC's morning rivals on CBS.
Lambert was to sing Wednesday on GMA, but the network said Tuesday that "we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning."
"Obviously, I respect their decision - they gotta do what they gotta do," Lambert said Tuesday in an interview with Ryan Seacrest. "It's too bad, I think there were a lot of fans who were excited to come see me.
"They probably had a lot of pressure coming at them from certain people who weren't happy about it."
While singing his new song For Your Entertainment at the awards program, Lambert kissed a male keyboardist, fondled a dancer and had another dancer briefly stuff his face in his crotch. It prompted many complaints to ABC.
While women have often crossed the threshold regarding sexually provocative appearances on television - think Madonna kissing Britney Spears - Lambert's performance was perhaps the first time it has been done by an openly gay man. The singer said before Sunday's show that he was hoping to accomplish just that.
"There are a lot of double standards as far as that goes," Lambert said backstage, a few days before the awards show.
"We've seen female pop and rock performers do that for the last 10 years. They've been very provocative, owning their power and sexuality. You just don't see men doing it very often. And I'm hoping to break down that double standard with this number."
ABC had seen Lambert in rehearsals and knew some of what he had planned but not the extent. Top ABC News management made the decision to cancel Lambert, spokeswoman Cathie Levine said. She said there was no pressure from the parent Walt Disney Co.

An eastern Ohio police chief was convicted of three felonies Friday but was acquitted of burglary charges in an alleged break-in at the home of a woman who carried twin girls for Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick.
A jury found suspended Martins Ferry Chief Barry Carpenter guilty of receiving stolen property, theft in office and tampering with evidence. He was acquitted on charges of burglary and unauthorized used of property or services.
Carpenter put his head in his hands after the verdict was read in Belmont County court.
"The bottom line is that there is a victim in this case whose privacy was so gravely intruded upon," Ohio Assistant Attorney General Emily Laube said. "If you can't trust the police, who can you trust?
Messages seeking comment were left for Carpenter's attorney, Dennis McNamara, and for Parker-Broderick spokesman Simon Halls.
Prosecutors alleged that Carpenter broke into Michelle Ross' home in May, took items related to her pregnancy and the surrogacy, and schemed with the Police Chief Chad Dojack of neighbouring Bridgeport to sell the items to celebrity photographers.
Dojack faces trial in January on two counts of complicity to burglary and one count of complicity to receiving stolen property.
Carpenter had testified that he went into the home to check it out because he saw a door open. He said he took photos of a surrogacy file that contained two ultrasound pictures and of a plaster cast of a pregnant stomach but did not take anything from the home.
He said he showed the photo of the cast to paparazzi and to several other people and said he never discussed selling items from the home to the photographers.
Ross gave birth to the twins June 22 at an Ohio hospital.
Jurors deliberated for about 12 hours on Friday and Monday.
Carpenter faces a maximum 10 years in jail when sentenced Dec. 30. Until then, he must stay in his mother's home and will be monitored by a GPS device.

Jacksoul frontman Haydain Neale was remembered as an "amazing individual" and a "joyful presence" as stunned colleagues learned of his death from cancer on Monday.
Neale, the frontman for the Juno Award-winning group, died Sunday at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto at age 39, after a seven-month battle with lung cancer, the family said in a release Monday.
Neale had also been recovering from serious injuries after being hit by a car while driving his Vespa motor scooter in Toronto on Aug. 3, 2007.
His friends and fellow musicians were shocked by the news, particularly since many of them thought that he was over the worst part of his illness and was recovering.
"That guy just exuded what it is to be a really cool, down to earth, just amazing individual," Toronto hip-hop MC Kardinal Offishall told The Canadian Press backstage at the SOCAN awards on Monday.
"Wow. Canada really lost something special."
Family members and friends were by his side when he died.
"Through all these challenges, Haydain's sense of humour and love of music were ever-present," his wife Michaela said in the statement.
He constantly brightened the room with his singing and his smile. His joyful presence and beautiful voice will be missed by us all."
Jacksoul was to release SOULmate, on Dec. 1 with 10 new tracks, their first album since the accident.
The first single, Lonesome Highway, was co-produced and co-written by Neale, and touches on his recovery, supported by his wife, daughter Yasmin and numerous others.
