A yard and bake sale takes place at Wesley United Church in Brown's Flat, starting at 9 a.m. Lots of great recycled treasures, as well as refreshments, will be offered at the sale, which is being held by the by the church's Committee of Stewards.

There will be a Seniors Dance at the Saint John City Market, Seniors Centre, second floor, from 7:30-10 p.m. Use the door on north side of the market. Art Capson will play country CDs. Admission is a $2 donation.

Did you know there is an old theatre on the top floor of the Wood Block on Bridge Street in Sackville? The Imperial Theatre closed more than 50 years ago, but was reopened in 2006 by a small group of volunteers who wanted a flexible public space for music, theatre and art. Explore this historic space today at an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be special guest performances, an address from the mayor, and plenty of time to marvel at the visual and acoustic beauty of this Sackville treasure.

Cantores Celestes Women's Choir performs at 8 p.m. at the Imperial Theatre in Saint John. The 40-voice choir from Toronto presents The Circle Never Ends as part of their 20th Anniversary Celebrations. The choir is directed by Saint John native Kelly Galbraith and accompanied by pianist Ellen Meyer. The show features music from gospel, celtic, African, to the very best of the classical choral traditions. The event also features music by Stephen Hatfield, Faure, Verdi, and Tchaikovsky. The choir will make a donation from this performance to Opera New Brunswick. They will be joined by well-known local musicians Tracy Friars and Christopher Lane, executive director of Opera New Brunswick. Cantores Celestes has appeared on CBC Radio, a CBC Video as well as provided the music for sound tracks in various films. They have recorded five CDs. Tickets are $18. Call 674-4100.

Today's Writing Hurts Like Hell workshop in Fredericton will teach you how to use difficult topics appropriately in your writing. Through uncensored readings, candid discussions, and grueling writing exercises, you'll develop a sense for when the language is too strong (or mild) for the audience, or when the erotica scene has gone a little too far. Students are encouraged to bring in one or two pages of material they've been working on for open discussion. The workshop begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m., and enrolment is $50. Explore your inner muse with the Maritime Writers' Workshop. This year's series, which runs today until July 12, offers a series of one-day workshops, ranging from travel writing to documentary screenwriting to literary translation. You can also sign up for one-on-one sessions with writers such as Ann Compton, Biff Mitchell, Lloyd Salomone, Andrew Titus and Kathy Mac. All activities are held on the UNB campus, and free public readings will be held every evening at 7 p.m. on the steps of the Old Arts Building. Sackville knows wind - gentle breezes and mighty gusts. Come to the park on the corner of Bridge and Main Streets from 2-4 p.m. to take part in Windstream, a special community art project organized by the Owens Art Gallery, and create artworks that blow in the wind. The Fine Arts Building on the Mount Allison Campus will host the event in case of rain. The event is for families; all ages are welcome. For details, call 354-2574.

The Rothesay Regional Police and the Town of Quispamsis present a free movie night in the great outdoors. Join moviegoers aged 14 years and up at an evening at the Arts & Culture Park outdoor theatre for Vantage Point on the big screen. Enjoy free freshly popped popcorn. As well, the KV Old Boys will be on-site selling water, hotdogs and pop as part of their community fundraising. Bring blankets and chairs for the movie, which starts at dusk (about 9:10 p.m.). Tomorrow

The Fundy Trail's 2008 Concert on the Green series kicks off for the season this afternoon with Boone and the Band, a multi-talented group of musicians that mixes it up with downeast, Irish and Celtic tunes. The concert runs 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Fundy Trail tent in Parking Lot 6. Admission is free. For more information, visit www.fundytrailparkway.com.
