Neil Patrick Harris, as Barney, and guest star Britney Spears, as Abby, appear in a scene from ‘How I Met Your Mother.’ Spears makes her second guest appearance on the show tonight.

* Season finales and a slew of guest appearances (many of them from singers) are on the schedule as May "sweeps" begin. Topping the mentionables is pop star Britney Spears's second stint on How I Met Your Mother. The tabloid fixture reprises her role as Abby, the perky receptionist. This time, her flirtatious character is dating Barney (Neil Patrick Harris). (E, CBS)

* Vocalist Ace Young, the blue-eyed heartthrob from the fifth season of American Idol, drops in on the set of Bones. (Global, Fox)

* Another singer - Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit - is on House, where the dishevelled lead doctor gets amnesia after a bus accident. (Global, Fox)

* Speaking of amnesia, the forgetful title character on the season finale of Samantha Who puts the brakes on her relationship with Todd. (A-Channel, ABC)

* Damages ends its first season with Patty defending Ellen on murder charges and going head-to-head with Frobisher. A definite must-see. (Showcase)

* The sun-soaked reality series The Hills also exits the schedule for the summer. (MTV)

* Starting up a new season is American Gladiators, which has seven new gladiators, new challenges and a new venue - the Gladiator Arena. (Citytv, NBC)

* Other guest spots to look for: actress Kelly Preston's stint on the season ender of Medium (A-Channel, NBC), and actor Tom Sizemore's visit to CSI: Miami. (CTV, CBS)

* And Gossip Girl fans won't want to miss this installment as Serena goes through a major meltdown. (CW)
