I hope you can help identify this huge bird. There were two of them flying together. I am new to bird watching. I checked a few bird books but could not find these birds. I live in the Latimore Lake area. – Tim McGrath, Saint john The bird in the photo has long legs, long broad wings and a neck curved into a tight “S” shape. It also has a long pointed beak and a blue-grey body colouration. It’s a great blue heron, the largest member of the heron family that we have in New Brunswick. Herons are water birds that wade and catch fish, frogs and other food in their dagger-like beaks. All have long necks but curl them tightly when they take to the air. – Jim Wilson
