Mural scavenger hunt set for Aug. 4

SUSSEX - The Sussex Murals Committee wants children to learn from the images they see on Sussex and Sussex Corner buildings. On Aug. 4, the committee is hosting its first Paint the Town Read mural scavenger hunt from 10 a.m. to noon. Youths, aged three to 18, will learn the stories behind the area's 26 murals. The event will be held at O'Connell Park in Sussex, with a story tent for children three to seven years old. Those aged eight to 18 can get a little more physical by entering the hunt for a chance to win prizes.

Police probe break, vandalism

GRAND BAY-WESTFIELD - Police are continuing their investigation into a weekend break into the Lafarge business property in Welsford. Sgt. Gary Fournier of the Grand Bay-Westfield RCMP said vandals caused significant damage to two buildings on the site. Windows and furnishings in the two buildings were broken.

Woodworkers grab spotlight

BLOOMFIELD - The Barn in Bloomfield, along with Wolesley Industrial Products Ltd., London Lumber and robcosman.com have presented prizes to students and amateur woodworkers whose work was displayed at The Barn in Bloomfield. The exhibit included work from the KV Woodworking Club, Grade 12 students at Kennebecasis Valley High School and local amateur woodworkers. In the amateur category winners were Judson Delong for his mahogany music stand and humidor; Jack Brien for a stool; and Larry Henry for his turned vase. Among the students, winners were Chris Hatt for his table; Mike Grant for the garden bench he created; and Mark Smith for a stained bedside table. Winners received wood-working related tools.
